You Can Grow Your Own Alfalfa Seeds
Watching seeds sprout is a great activity for kids especially when they are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa is an easy-to-grow plant that can sprout within a week. Sprinkle a small quantity of alfalfa seeds on a wet paper towel to watch the seeds germinate and grow.
What you'll need
The packet contains Alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g).
A small plate or saucer
Three pieces of paper towel
a spray mister or small water jug
How to grow:
Place 3 sheets of paper towel on a dish.
Take the water off the plate. The paper towel should be wet however the seeds must not be floating in water.
Sprinkle the seeds thickly onto the towel.
To prevent the paper towel from drying out, put it on a sunny windowill covered with water. To dampen seeds, make use of a spray bottle or mister to do so. Or, gently add water into the saucer using the help of a small jug or cup.
Every day, be sure to check your seeds to see if they're developing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are simple to grow and should germinate within 2-6 days. If seeds do not germinate in this time there are a few possibilities of what could have gone wrong:
Too dry: Seeds need water to grow. Alfalfa seeds absorb about their own weight in water before getting germinated, making them appear swollen. If the seeds you have are too dry they will not sprout. Incorporate more water into the plate to make sure that the seeds are moist, but not floating in water. You can also soak your seeds overnight, but make sure you drain them and rinse them with fresh water before spreading them on the paper towel.
Too moist: Seeds that are too moist could cause their roots and shoots to decay before they are able to develop. The seeds could also turn moldy. It's okay for the paper towel to be damp, بذور مصريه but the seeds shouldn't be floating on water. Remove any excess water from the plate each time you mist or بذور مصريه (askreader.co.uk) water your seeds.
Too cold or too hot: Alfalfa grows best at 20-25°C. If you're cultivating your seeds indoors during winter, put them in a cool area. If you are growing your seeds in very warm temperatures, you might need to water them more often because they'll dry out more quickly.
