Why Pushchair Might Be Your Next Big Obsession
Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin
You'll need a double stroller to take your twins from A to B. Our range of twin prams for newborns includes twin buggies that can be set up in different ways to suit your needs.
Choose a stroller (cool training) that folds in a single step and is easy to lift into your car. You may also want an ultra-light design that is easy to maneuver and navigate especially if you have busy streets to tackle.
Side-by-Side
This is the most popular double pushchair. It is usually able to accommodate two children side-by-side. They are generally wider than single pushchairs, which means they may be less nimble on the footpaths and may be a bit difficult to navigate up and down the kerbs with a car attached. However, the extra width does mean that they're often a lot easier to navigate through doorways and are distributed more evenly making them more comfortable to carry on your back.
They can be used as a twin pram from birth, and many models can accommodate a carrycot or 2 car seats. Some models can be converted to a single mode with a basket on the side (like the Cybex Venus).
The Bugaboo Donkey 5 is a perfect illustration of this. In Twin Mode, you can fit the rear seat alongside a carrycot. This creates a totally enclosed space for twins, and is ideal for newborns. The pram comes with really cool accessories, including the newborn cocoons that can be attached either facing towards the front or in any direction (for twin-facing prams pushchairs). It's not as lightweight as other models but it's incredibly well designed.
Lightweight
Cybex is known for innovation and this pushchair that converts from a single to a double is no different. The frame can be enlarged to accommodate a second seat. It is possible to use the pushchair as a twin from birth by putting in two cocoons for babies for a total of PS59. These cocoons create lie-flat areas that are enclosed. The large basket of shopping behind the seat can be used in mono mode for one child. It comes with front and rear suspension that allows it to handle bumps and uneven surfaces more easily. A top pick among our reviewers.
Available in a range of elegant colors.
Tandem
If you're planning to have twins, you need a tandem pushchair that permits the children to be seated together so that they can be able to see each other. These are great for things such as visiting the zoo as the children will be able to gaze at all the animals together. They're also perfect for parents who must keep one eye on their toddler and the other on their child because they can see both of them at the same time.
Some tandem pushchairs are very adaptable, as they can be converted to single mode. This is especially useful for families with more than two children (or only your oldest doesn't need a buggy anymore). This will save you from having to store a buggy that's empty which can be expensive.
The Cybex Venus, for example can be used in mono or double mode. The frame can be expanded to allow for an additional seat. It's not the lightest pushchair, but it has an ample basket that can be placed behind the front seat in double mode or at the rear when in mono mode. The seats can either be placed so that they face each other or higher up to see what each is doing.
Other double tandem pushchairs, such as the Joolz Geo 3, are equipped to place one on top of the other or side by side. They feature a sleek, compact frame that makes it easier to navigate through doorways and supermarket aisles Some models can also be used as a jogging stroller or on rough terrain due to a four-wheel suspension as well as wide rear wheels.
Another advantage of a tandem pushchair is that it will often take two carrycots, or a car seat, and a buggy seat. You can save money by creating an entire travel system from the beginning and not making separate purchases. It is important to remember that tandems can be heavier and longer than single pushchairs, and can feel less stable in bumping into kerbs or over uneven surfaces. They also tend to need dismantling in order to fit into cars.
