WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade items also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current Item Level Upgrade level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in many places, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade item system was modified a bit, and some new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrading in the proper steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
