Grow Your Own Alfalfa Seeds

Watching seeds germinate is fantastic activity for kids particularly when the seeds develop quickly. Alfalfa is one of the easiest seeds to grow and should be sprouting within one week. Sprinkle a tiny amount of alfalfa seeds onto a moist newspaper towel and watch them germinate and grow.

What you will need:
Alfalfa seeds in a packet (about 1.5g)
A small plate or saucer
Three paper towels
A small or spray mister water container


How to Grow:
Put 3 sheets of paper towel on a dish.
After that, you should drain the water off the plate. The paper towel should be dampened, but seeds should not be floating in the water.
Distribute the seeds evenly over the towel.
To avoid the paper towel drying out, place it on a window filled with water. To moisten seeds, utilize a spray bottle or mister to do so. Or, gently add water into the saucer by using the help of a small jug or cup.
Everyday, you should check your seeds to see how they are developing.


Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are very easy to grow and will sprout within 2 to 6 days. Here are some signs to be aware of when your seeds fail to germinate in this period.

Too dry: Seeds need water to develop. Alfalfa seeds absorb about half their weight in water prior to they germinate. This makes them appear to be swollen. If your seeds are dry, they won't sprout. You can add more water to the plate to make sure that the seeds are damp but not floating in the water. You can also soak your seeds overnight. But be sure to remove them and wash them thoroughly before transferring them onto a paper towel.
