How to Replace an audi car key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are different pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU
